The Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer

The Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer (FCIC) is a leading cancer centre in Australia, housing world-class care and survivorship services alongside innovative cancer prevention and early intervention research. FCIC strives towards the further development of labratory research on pre-cancer biology. In support of this mission statement the design brief for FCIC focused on an innovative and collabrotative workspace which reinforced patient orientation for compassionate care, healing, well being and hope.

FCIC is a four-storey building with a Helipad located on the roof. The building is surrounding a central glass atrium which provides a peaceful light environment as a meeting place for all who work in and visit the centre.

The ground floor provides a wide range of public facilities including a lecture theatre, seminar rooms, a health spa (practicing therapeutic techniques), a sacred space for meditation, yoga classes and an area dedicated to population screening.

The upper floors incorporate biomedical research, patient care research and clinical research linked by air bridges to the researchers in the southern wing to facilitate direct liaison with clinicians and patient services.
