Press Release: Hindmarsh appointed D&C Contractor for UNSW COFA Redevelopment

The University of NSW’s College of Fine Arts, located in Paddington, is regarded as being Australia’s leading art, design and media school producing many of Australia’s most eminent artists, designers and theorists.

The project will reshape the COFA campus through the creation of new galleries and art spaces and, by re-orienting the campus to Oxford St, create an arts and cultural precinct where the public can attend exhibitions, lectures and short courses. The project involves the refurbishment of Building F, an existing 3 story teaching and administration building. The works include a new level and roof over as well as an upgrade of the existing interior.

Additional demolition of existing buildings are to enable the construction of a new 4 level teaching and administration Building D to 4 Star Green Star and a new internal courtyard, all within the operating university campus.

The new building structure will be a reinforced, post tensioned concrete structure with steel roof. The façade of Building F will be painted concrete and colourbond panelling, pre-finished fibre cement cladding with aluminium louvres and commercial windows. Building D façade will be rendered brickwork and spandrel panels with aluminium commercial windows.

The building services will included new mechanical services – combination of air cooled and chilled water air conditioning systems with compressed air for various workshops. Fire Services will be EWIs and sprinklers. Electrical services includes a new substation, typical power and lighting, CCTV. Communications services includes extensive data cabling and computer laboratories. Hydraulic Services will include water detention tanks, a re-use tank with stormwater recycled through the cooling tower and WCs.
