$15m Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital Emergency Department

This $15m project was successfully delivered on behalf of Health Infrastructure NSW by Hindmarsh, and involved the redevelopment of the Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital Emergency Department. The redevelopment of the exisitng Hospital has delivered contemporary facilities, with improved patient care equipment to meet the needs of the growing and diverse population of the Bankstown local community.

The project included a combination of new build and refurbishment & fitout of the existing emergency department and adjoining carparking facilities, with the existing operational constraints of the hospital remaining uninterrupted as practicably possible.

Complex staging of works within the existing facilities of the emergency department for refit activities was carefully planned and maintained with active stakeholder engagement.

Key features of the project include:
  • An increase in area and treatment spaces;
  • Enhanced emergency care for the local community;
  • Additional emergency department short stay unit capacity;
  • Streaming of patients to the most appropriate environment of care to reflect their level of complexity; and
  • An improved emergency care experience for staff, patients and visitors.

Consistent with NSW Government advice on COVID-19, Hindmarsh was able to respond quickly to the rapidly evolving situation with a range of new work practices to help ensure the safety of workers and the community.
